Eric Arthur Blair, also known as George Orwell, is the author of one of the highly trending book, “1984”. His book was written back in 1949 using the form of dystopian literature. Unfortunately, his imagery was true not only for that age, but also for recent days in 2017.
Even though Orwell’s “1984” was written 68 years ago, his anticipated descriptions still exist within our current times. Where some leaders have always tried to manipulate the truth and twist the facts to benefit their ends and needs. Just as it says in the book “In the end the party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it.” What’s remarkable about “1984” is that when it was written, it was not based on a specific party’s actions; surprisingly now it does relate to several current parties all across the globe.
Here are some concepts and situations reflected in the book which unfortunately still apply now-a-days;
Other countries in the world (besides Oceania where the story takes place) are either allies or enemies depending on the propaganda which constantly changes depending on what the ruling class wants (relevance is how the media is viewed today by a vast number of people and how it manipulates the understanding of world politics; moreover, it could be seen within the context of current restructuring when it comes to global affairs).
People’s relationships changed, in “1984” people mistrusted one another due to the secret police who encouraged them to turn on each other reaching a point where people started to monitor themselves and others (relevance is the current social media obsession with monitoring others and how it has pushed individuals to change the nature of their relationships due to how they perceive others virtually through social networks).
“1984” has had its big hit earlier when it was published, it was later considered as one of the most influential books to be written due to the impact it had back then and now-a-days. The book received numerous reviews from well-known critics within The Guardian, Telegraph, The Independent, Goodreads and many more.
Fortunately, for all movie lovers, the book was later made into a movie also called 1984 and directed by Micheal Radford. You may also view its trailer below.
According to CNN, Penguin will reprint 75,000 copies of the book this week due to the recent surge of interest with it. Phi Management would recommend you reading this book if you still haven’t.
