Ted Cruz, in his speech last Tuesday, fell into the trap of comparison when he compared himself to the great leaders, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan; saying that they both represented a whole new vision and vibrancy.
Listening to Cruz speech, you have a feeling that he is preaching instead of engaging and inspiring. Using great leaders names made him sound too idealistic and not powerful at all as a leader. This technique did not help him in energizing and uplifting his audience. Remember, writing a speech and coming up with ideas might sound for you easy but getting others to embrace them and follow you is definitely not.
