Lesson 13:

Never Ask The Audience To Clap For You!

Jeb Bush; the Republican presidential had to ask the audience during an event to clap during his speech. In public speaking many studies have been done recently about "the social contagion" when it comes to applauses. Regardless this latest analysis, there are still certain techniques to lead an audience to an applause but definitely not asking them to do so or not planting “claqueurs” into your audience. First, it is essential to develop an awareness about who is your audience and how they will respond to your words and speech.
At Phi management (Speakers Corner® - Public Speaking & Communication Academy, we coach and train on different techniques to get the audience fully engaged and naturally engaged such as the use of the voice towards the end of the sentence, the pace and pauses with an emphasis on the final words, the speech writing by using emotions and drama, the repetition of sentences, the use of slogans "yes we can | Obama campaign" and rhymes, the sense of humor …etc.
